LED Light Bulbs

Quality LED Lamps and Light Bulbs that Last!

An LED fitting is one that uses light emitting diodes to create light. This is down by passing an electrical current through the LED chip which is made of rare metals, and burns at very high temperatures. Because these metals burn at such high temperatures a much lower wattage of electricity is required to create the light. However these diodes create a lot of heat and therefore the heat most be displaced to stop the diode from overheating and reducing its life. To remove this heat most LED Lamps or Light Fittings have a grill like metal structure on the back of them that is designed to remove the heat away from the diode itself. This works very much on the same principles as a refrigerator that uses the wire mesh on the rear of it to remove the heat created from the gases.

Remember that with Led Lights you cannot use the wattage as an indication of the light output as they are not calculated in this way. LED Fittings use lumen output to measure the light outputs. For example in our view (but this changes between manufacturers) a 50watt halogen light bulb would take approximately 650lm (Lumens) to achieve the same light levels. Don’t get fouled by thinking that you can do a simple conversion of the LED wattage and convert back into traditional lamp wattage, as this is not possible. A good way of checking apples for apples, is to look at the lumens per wattage of consumption, so a 6watt fitting that produces 600lm would equal 100lm per circuit watt. But remember to check that the total output in lumens will give you the light levels you need.

Most LED Lights require what is called a “Driver” to ignite the lamp, each manufacture of chips uses a different driver so make sure you are using the correct one or you will reduce the chips life greatly. Our ranges of LED Light Fittings come with either an internal driver built into the fitting or external for wiring on to the fitting.
